So over the past weekend, I've been trying to remove the factory under-seal where the final drive, rear wheels and fuel tank sit.
What my thought process was, is that if there is some under-seal thats a bit flakey or that I can see some rust, then that area is getting cleaned back to bare metal.
Removing under-seal that is rubberised is a pain, I bought a cheap hot air gun, which is primarily used for stripping paint, some scrapers, and a few more wire wheels. In those hard to get places heating the under-seal with a hot air gun and using a chisel, screwdriver and a few paint scrappers seems to do the trick, however it is so time consuming and demoralising!!!
If I upload one of the video's I made over the weekend, you can here it in my voice, how fed up with that process I am. If money wasn't too much of an option, I would strip the whole car and get the shell dipped in an acid bath.
One piece of kit I have been using is a knotted wire wheel, which winds onto the spindle on your angle grinder, this thing is an absolute animal, it munches anything, providing you have the energy holding up whist laying under the car, then all is good, be warned though it found a few holes and made them bigger, but it is the best tool so far for removing under-seal.
Apart from the arm and neck aching that coincides I was only able to do around 4 hours of this a day, as I don't particularly want to upset my neighbours.
This afternoon, I managed to get some rust converter on everywhere that I had attacked over the weekend, and maybe tomorrow I'll clean the rest of the"good" under-seal so it's ready for new under-seal to be sprayed on, but that won't be a while yet. first I need to get the new outer wings cut in and welded.
